Update

Here are a few shots from my current intern project. I am still nailing down the layout of everything. I need to start working on this at home so I can get it done before my end date comes up. Anyway here are a few progress shots, nothing special :) Enjoy

P.S. I promise some more drawings in the near future. It is all a matter of getting a scanner to work.

Project

Hey all! I am still alive, I promise. I have been working at Disney interactive/ Avalanche for a couple weeks now. Here is an example of stuff that I work on. This will not be in a game or anything, this is more of a personal project. It is a work in progress, so It doesnt look amazing yet :) I have alot more sketches to post up here also so give me a little bit. Work at Avalanche has been very educational. I am stoked to learn more from some of the best in the game industry. Wish me luck! Enjoy.

Update: Some lights and a bump map help bring out the 3-dimensionality to it.

Dont make a green man angry

Here is a preview of the character for my 3d animation final! I have spent 80+ plus hours on this guy so he better be worth it :) I am having a blast bringing him to life!! Enjoy!

Final for Bible as Lit

I really enjoyed my bible as literature class a lot more than I thought I would. Especially because this is my final project. He let me paint whatever I wanted from the stories that we talked about. Samson is like the superhero of the bible (even though it turns out he wasn't such an amazing guy). This was done in about 12 hours in Corel Painter X on an intuos 3 tablet. Enjoy.
P.S. any suggestions for the background?? I want to change it but here it is for now :)

Facial Reconstruction

I decided that I didn't like the face of my dog model. So I went in and fixed it. Ah the beauty of plasticine. Enjoy.

3d Little Green Mans

This is the model for my final assignment in my 3d animation class. You might recognize him from one of my previous posts. This has taken me a few days, but I have really enjoyed growing by learning how things all go together. I still have a little work to do on the eyes, but you get the idea. Hopefully I'll have the animation up for you in a couple weeks. Enjoy! (Maya 2008)

Basil, Salem, or Spot...or something else

Here is...yeah cant decide on a decent name for him. I did a lot of smoothing and detail work on him for this last pass. I thought he was a bunch of fun. I could really get into this modeling thing :) Enjoy!

Hunchy

My second maquette is coming along nicely. This guy is way heavy, but a lot more sturdy than the girl. I really like the big shapes, but the large surface area makes him really hard to smooth out and make it look just right. I have only spent 2 days on this one so far, and I'm almost done. I'm going to say that I leveled up in efficiency a bit with this second one :) Enjoy.

Finished

Here she is in all her glory. I actually finished at a decent time tonight. This model is done with clay, and I'm proud to claim it as my first attempt ever at sculpting. This was a bunch of fun, and if I ever figure out how to do this without taking so much blasted time, I might just do it for fun sometime :) Enjoy!

Delays

Sorry for the poor quality photo, I was in a hurry to get to school this morning. I really worked on the face last night, it was really bugging me, so I fixed the lips, nose and a little bit more with the eyes. The hair will be my next effort. I WILL finish this tonight!

One Last Step

I spent all night yesterday working on the hands and a few little details here and there. One main change is her bottom eyelids. I mostly flattened them out so I wouldn't keep getting the "she looks like she's wearing glasses her eyelashes are so thick" look. I have to finish out the hair, possibly some more smoothing out of rough edges and I think she will be pretty much done. Enjoy!

Getting close!

Here she is after day 5. I finished blocking out her arms and added some detail to the pants, legs and sleeves. I would be embarrassed to tell you how long I actually worked on ths model for so few results. That's what I get for being a perfectionist. I should have her done by tomorrow. Cross your fingers! Enjoy!

Day 4

Here is some progress for the 4th day. She's actually starting to look like a model of a human! Woo this is fun, but extremely time consuming. I think that I just need to block out the important parts before actually trying to make it look pretty :) Lets hope I can get her finished soon, I have another one to build by the end of the month! Enjoy.

Without her vest.

With the vest :)

Armature

This is my progress on the 3rd night. It is taking quite a bit of time, especially because wire doesnt move quite as well as human joints do. It is an interesting learning experience trying to get this girl to look like how I drew her on paper. I will post up the concept drawing for her too after I get everything done. It is a lot of fun, it just takes forever.

Model Head

This is after 2 days work what I have so far on my first model.  Hopefully the rest of her won't take me as long to get done.  I'm still working out the kinks, but I think that so far it's pretty successful for my first model ever :)

Super secret space

4 of 4!! Holy snap, this one killed me. Mainly because I took it upon myself to keep to one hue. Yep, this is monochromatic. Everything is a shade of yellow. I tried to get the dank gross feeling that signifies jealousy and greed for me. It was tough but in the end, I'm pretty proud of it. This is where Arlington and his lackeys come at night. Its a secret spot inside a shed on the outskirts of camp. This is where they plot against John, Clarence, or anyone else who gets in their way. It is also where Arlington tries to write poetry to Mary, as you can see from the papers on the table and the crumpled papers on the floor. Enjoy

Bunks

Here are the bunks where John and Clarence stay. This was a tough painting to get out. Not as clean as I would want, but you get the gist of what is going on right? Painted in Corel Painter X.

Medic

This is the medical facility for the camp. Number 2 of 4. This one took me a while because I tried to get some detail in the trees and other stuff. Not my favorite or most interesting environment, but I think it does the job. Sketched in pencil and colored in Corel painter X.

Camp (Name coming Later)

This is environment one of four for the concept design assignment. This was a lot of fun, but environments are not my forte. It is hard for me to find an interesting composition and color it up with pleasing color scheme. Im pretty happy with this one, but I know I can improve it somehow. This is the boot camp in which my characters will live for the story. Sketched on paper and painted in Corel Painter X

Mary Brown

Here is the last character of my 4. This is Mary Brown. She is a young girl studying to become a teacher. She was notified that nurses were needed in a local Army training camp and was promptly moved in to help. She was never medically trained and is completely lost when it comes to fixing banged up soldiers. She becomes the love interest for John later on in the story. Arlington is determined to take her for his own, and this establishes the main conflict between John and Arlington.
Sketched in pencil, Cleaned up in photoshop, Live traced in Illustrator, cleaned up and colored in photoshop.

Clarence Terrence

This is Clarence. Part 3 of 4. He is drafted to the army from the work that he loves. Clarence is a botanist, and at times seems more interested in the plants on the ground than the people talking to him. While he is usually in another world, he and John seem to get along great as bunk mates. He has a very loveable personality albeit a little strange. While ofttimes being the brunt of Arlington's jokes he rarely notices and just wanders on his merry way.

Arlington Winsor

The second installment of my character design assignment. Arlington Winsor aka The Antagonist. A city boy who has had everything given to him in life. He outranks John Johnson as a Private First Class. Because of this he starts making John's life miserable because frankly he thinks he is better in every way. He also thinks he is a ladies man and this creates the main conflict of the story to be posted later!! Sketched with a colerase pencil, cleaned up in photoshop, traced in illustrator, cleaned up again in photoshop, and finally colored in photoshop. Enjoy!

John Johnson

I decided to try a more simple style for my character design assignment for this semester. This is John Johnson. A reluctant world war 1 recruit who gets drafted off his farm in Nov. 1917. He is a good hearted guy, but he feels that he is just not cut out for the military. This is the first of 4 characters that I have designed for this assignment. I also have 4 environments to do. With how long this guy took me, I think I need to pick up the pace to finish by the first of March. This was sketched on paper first. Taken into Photoshop and cleaned up, Live traced by Adobe illustrator, Cleaned up in photoshop again, and colored in photoshop. It was quite the process, but I think I am happy with it. Feel free to critique. I CAN TAKE IT! :D Enjoy!

Green man gets green

This is a painting from one of my previous posts. I really enjoyed this because I did it for fun. Not for an assignment or anything, just for plain fun...and for my portfolio for summer internship applications. Done in Corel Painter X with an Intuos 3. Enjoy!

I will win the animation

Here is the project that has consumed my life for the past 2 weeks. Yeah it doesn't look like much, but i was glad to get it out of the way. This was for our first assignment in "illusion of life". I know I'm going to love the class. I also know it is going to take most of my life up for the next few months. Enjoy!

One Eyed, One Horned...

You know the rest. Don't worry he only eats purple people. However, this poor fellow seems to be running out of those nasty purple people to masticate. My daughter was watching the 1990's tv hit "Kidsongs" when they sung his theme song. He was a lot more furry, plump and less likely to slaughter you where you stand back then. Enjoy.

Sketches

Since its been so blasted long since my last post, I'm throwing some sketchbook stuff at you. I really am discovering for my love of normal, wood, soft, colored pencils. I have tried sketching so much with a mechanical pencil, and it never turned out like I wanted it to. Th floating heads page is done with a .05 mm mechanical, but the other two were done with a normal colerase pencil. I love the soft feeling of the lead. It almost feels like the pencil wants you to put out a good drawing with it. Anyway, I'll try to post some more of my sketchbook stuff since that is all that is going ot come out of me for a bit. All of my other projects are gonna take some time. Enjoy!

FInal Digital Painting Assignment

Here is the finished Burger boy painting. Yeah It looks like a plug on childhood obesity, so that's what I'll let it be. It was fun all in all and I learned a ton. I really enjoyed this project even though it took me eons to finish. Anyway I have another final to study for so, laters and ENJOY!
