Its been way too long a time since I've posted anything. I recently moved my family across the country and started a new job with the Army Game Studio in Huntsville AL. I've been hired on as a full time concept artist, so I will be able to focus a bit on my straight up 2d skills for a bit. WOO!
Here's a 1/2 hour sketch inspired by Mel Milton's frequent sketches. Love his stuff.
Hopefully when things settle down, I'll be getting stuff up here more often :D
This was for another art test I just finished up. Is it typical for peoples to have to pull all-nighters to finish their tests?? because….man…bluh.
Mostly zbrush, a bit of topogun.
I find I really like 3D coat's painting process more right off the bat. So much easier to pick up and understand. Zbrush does give you a bit more flexibility with your pipeline though. All in all, this was a fun one, and I need sleep.
I’m so stoked for this. Jake Wyatt, artist extraordinaire has a new comic hes been working on for a bit called Necropolis. I LOVE the design and feel of the whole comic, and you should too.
This is The Third Sword, the main character in his comic. I was feeling obsessed and wanted to throw out a fanart. This is what you get. I did what I could Jake! :D Good luck with the rest of the comic!
Trying to get a little prop work done. I started simple :) I figured I could find concept online to save a bit of time concepting. This one is from Cory Loftis. The dude is seriously amazing. It was fun messing with marmoset with the render at the end too. The lighting is bugging me a bit, but I'm sure I'll figure out how to use it eventually :)
So I've really started to try to do a bit more environment and prop work due to some awesome advice by the also awesome Joe Olson. So here is a little preview of what I have in the works. It is hard for me as a character guy to think that I can actually enjoy designing environments, but it really is! I kept telling myself that environments weren't as fun as characters because there was nothing actually alive and moving. Well I was wrong. Anything can have personality if you just put a little thought into it. Once I changed my mindset and opened up a bit, it all became much more fun and motivating.
I'm going to continue on these for a bit. Lets see where I end up.
ALSO! I finally have a bit of time to keep working on this sculpt. Here's a bit of progress.
With all my free time lately I have really been buckling down and trying to crank out some fun stuff. This is what I'm working on at the moment. I have a long ways to go, but I wanted to give you guys a look because I'm pretty happy with her so far. More to come!
I've been cranking on this guy for a bit. I feel like I learn a ton when I really crank out a full 3D character. It takes a good amount of effort, but its so worth it. Super happy fun times of learnings!
Fan Art! Camp Weedonwancha artist Katie Rice has some pretty hilarious stuff in her new up and coming webcomic. I am a pretty big fan of her stuff so I did up this little diddy tonight in between projects. Poor Malachi. I barely know him and I feel so bad for him. I'd be pretty sad if my parents dropped me off at a summer camp and never picked me up.
I am working on a couple things right now since I have a little free time. I have also been experimenting with Manga studio Pro for inking, and guys...its awesome. I absolutely love the extra stability it gives my lines. I haven't used it for much more than that, but yeah, I'm loving it. Anyway, this is a sneak peak from something I'm working on. Woo!
I wanted to get this on here before I head to bed. One of my buddies out here mentioned that he wanted a picture like this for Christmas in jest. Jokes on him I guess :) Or on me considering that I'm 20 days late. Merry January 15th!
I've been working on this painting for a few days. I'm proud of some things and I'm kicking myself for not having had more reps/ practice at the same time. All in all I know one thing. I NEED TO PAINT MORE.
I am currently in progress on a design that I found online. I will post the progress shots as I go.I decided to challenge myself a bit so this is going to take longer than a day. Let hope I finish before I leave on vacation on thurs. Not likely :)
Another zsculpt for the day. Took me less time to start figuring things out, so that's awesome :) I went loosely off of a design by Bret Bean, an awesome artist I found recently. I thought that it would be a good practice for hair and fun cartoon rendering.
ZBRUSH! I decided that really diving into sculpting would be pretty beneficial to my skillset, and I also havent sculpted for a while. I wanted to try a little hard surface sculpting considering I havent really done any yet. This is what came out.
Here is what I was working on for the past 2 days. The painting isnt where I wanted to get it, but I'm learning as I go. I was working on line weight in the sketch and the clothing wrinkles in the painting. This was a fun one, but time to move on!
