Preview for tomorrow

I sketched up something for today, but I didn't quite finish it.  I want to take some more time on it, because I'm liking it and I'm not bored with it yet :)  Here is a little preview.

A little something I found

So I've hit a roadblock with the past two nights trying to put something out.  I've worked on something, but I hated what I did too much...so I tossed it :)  I'll get something new soon, I promise.

Meanwhile here is something I did a few weeks back.  I was trying to stick to a certain style and came out with this.  A little different. but it was fun.

A day late

I missed yesterday so I'll post 2 today.  I had this portrait lying around so I might as well get it up here :)  Not my fav, but its something.  I think it could use a bit more finesse, but I got bored :)

I also thought it would be interesting if the God of war (Kratos on the left) and the Horseman of the apocalypse named "War" had a little spat.  There are various opinions on who would win so far.  I can tell you, I think it would be pretty close.  So far Kratos has the longer resume though.  Not even Zeus could take him down.  Good ol' War has is work cut out for him. :)

Tofu

So tonight while the family was gone I tried out some tofu.  It was my first time actually trying to cook it.  As I pulled the slimy white block of bean curd out of its cardboard box, I really wondered what got me to eat this.  I have always thought that eating tofu was weird, why would you eat tofu instead of actual food?!  Then I started trying to lose a bit of weight...one thing led to another, and here I am eating tofu and counting calories.  It finally got me.

It was actually pretty dang good.  Of course it doesn't hurt to be an world class chef like myself...

Things get weird

So my little family took off for about 2 weeks to Utah to be with family.  Needless to say, when my family is gone, my brain gets silly...and sad and lost.  This guy is pretty similar to how I feel without them here.

Ran out of time :/

Still working on speeding up.  Took way too long to get this one where it is.
I just watched hunger games yesterday finally.  After reading the books, I felt like it was a pretty faithful movie adaptation.  The actors weren't too bad either.  I was afraid that I would hate Peeta because I cant stand the actor.  He did alright though.  Jennifer Lawrence didn't do too bad either as Katniss.  She was pretty believable as the character.  Speaking of the girl on fire...

Nothing new today

I celebrated my birthday in style with my fam and friends eating some burgers and whatnot so I didnt get anything done today.  I was halfway through a zbrush sculpt until the day went nuts at work, so alas I have nothing new to show...
But I found something old!

I did this one sometime last year.  I was trying to stick to a specific style, but I don't think it quite turned out.  Her design was fun though.

This is often how I find my poor son.  His two older sisters love him SO much they need to nearly smother him to death every time they see him.  That kid is either going to be super tough, or extremely traumatized when he gets bigger.  Enjoy :)

Cats!

I have always been a huge fan of Batman and Catwoman being a couple.  Don't ask me why.  I think that's why I liked the "Hush" graphic novel so much.  Their dynamic just works.  A billionaire business man fighting crime at night and a master thief who causes crime pretty much always.  The perfect couple.

Latest is still in the works

I have been working on a little ditty for the last few nights.  I havent had more than a half hour each time so its not quite finished yet.  Instead, I'll post a few pieces from my FuturePoly class I took a few months back.  The class was super awesome.  It was taught my the amazing Horia Dociu.  I learned a ton from that dude.

This assignment to get the class members to explore new techniques in getting a lot of interesting detail in a short amount of time.  Basically, image searching is your friend and you should overlay pics to get a map to paint your character with.  :)

This guys was a character that we went through and mapped out everything about him.  From good guy or bad guy, all the way down to what genre of game are making him for.  It was an awesome assignment and I pretty do that with all my characters now.

Man I keep doing these too late in the day...I guess that's what happens when crunch time at work comes.  This never really started out as anything.  I just sketched out some shapes and went with it.  Took me longer than I hoped.  Still super fun though.

Old Mans

I really had to force out this one today.  I wasn't able to sit down until about midnight, but a goal is a goal.  Its is seeming ever more odd to me that whenever I sit down with nothing in mind to draw, that I always draw some old crotchety dude.  I guess old guys have the most interesting faces to draw.  So many years of craziness displayed on a single canvas...Now I'm just getting too deep.  OLD MANZ PWN!

Bananapants!

I really need to get arting on the side again, so I'm trying to come up with a new piece every day.  Wish me luck :) You can thank my daughter for this topic.  "Bananapants!" was the first thing that came out of her mouth when we asked her what I should draw, so we ran with it :)

Bananapants can be quite controversial when taken out of context.

And this is my daughter's depiction.  The bananapants kind of turned into flowerpants, but I didn't argue.

I LIVE.  Its been like a year.  Apologies...

So anyway.

I promise I actually HAVE been arting.  I'm currently plugging away on a few projects at Microsoft studios, but here is a piece that I have been working on for a few weeks on and off.  I really had a lot of fun with this guy.  My plan is to take him all the way through the 3D Process as well.

Portal 2

Yeah I am a huge fan of Portal. The amount of time put into the writing and voice acting alone would make the game for me, even if it wasn't incredibly fun. I frequently find myself trying to beat the level just to see what will be said next. That says a lot about writing in video games to me :) If you haven't played Portal, shame on you. Repent and go treat yourself to one of the better games of our generation.

Microsoft and a Bieber

I apologize for my long absence. If anyone still follows this blog :) I have been working for Microsoft Games again as a full time employee since January, and it has been awesome. I am currently working on an XBox live title and a mobile title as well. Very cool, they will be coming out soon, I'll let you know when to go buy them ;)
Life has been crazy, moving a family and starting everything up again. Quite the challenge I might say. I think we are a little more established now, so hopefully I will be posting a bit more regularly.

Here are a few pieces I have been working on for fun in the down time. Both will be auctioned off for a local charity event.

The wolverine was a quick fun project because I really couldn't get myself to paint otherwise. Still getting back into painting, this is great therapy :)

Another one down

I finished up another sketchbook and decided to start in a moleskine again. Hence the yellow paper. I am also continuing work on the Pre-Dominance war competition with the pic at the bottom. I'm loving the use of 3d coat and photoshop together. Pretty sweet stuff. Enjoy!

Pre-Dominance war

Well this is a little different of me, but I am entering an online competition type thingy called the Pre-dominance war. You go out and make a 3d character that fit certain criteria. This is my quick sketch concept for the character I am thinking of doing. The criteria: 3000 tris, no normal or bump maps, and it has to be done on the 6th of December. Here we goooooo!

After getting some nice pretty white vans for Christmas last year I decided to embark on a project that sounded like a lot of fun. Now, 297 Days 9 hours, 42 minutes and 35 seconds later...They are FINISHED.

I'm serious

Working

We've been killing ourselves on this senior film thing. My class and I are working throughout the weeks to try and get this thing done ASAP. Yeah its not gonna happen for a bit, but hey its looking great.

Here is a little piece I did for a poster on the wall. The film is focused around boxing in the 1930's, and this is a previous boxing champ. Yes women did box back then. And they wore dresses. While they boxed.

A lot of what I am working on for the film isn't something to show. I'm mainly fixing geometry on various models and other stuff. I'll get some zbrush stuff on here soon considering I'm finally figuring out my way around it. Enjoy.
